I feel like I've been planted in a country w a foreign language. Which is taking control. Forgive me if I'm not clear. Just really brain fried. These aspect ratios are always Width X then Height Y, there's many but is your normal Landscape mode, is Portrait mode, set your Project to the aspect ratio you want, if your video is made with the phone vertically it's probably portrait mode, if your phone was horizontal when filming it's landscape mode, when you import your video it will ask you if you want to make the project match your media, normally you would click Yes unless you have already set the project to a desired size, x for eg.

I am trying to render videos I can upload to Instagram. But when I render in MP4 format They require in various sizes it doesn't come out right. See 2 photos. For example I placed a small photo of my album in the start of the music video. I used "Track Motion" to reduce size and place in upper right of video. When I render to MP4, it's as if the album cover is almost original full size and the top of it extends above the regular video. Like it isn't paying attention to "Track Motion".

Been working on and off months. I may need lessons or something simple for my unsophisticated brain. Thanks PA. I have one suspicion what might be causing your problem. The shape of the rectangular display is called the "Aspect Ratio. Instagram accepts a variety of video aspect ratios, depending on their category. Since Movie Studio 13 is too old to have a project template, you will have to make your own, and then compose your image content to fit that shape.

There is nothing wrong with your brain. It was your education. Here's an opportunity to get a fresh start. Are you sure you want to report this comment post user as questionable?

You may be blocked if you misuse this feature! Lets face it, editing video is not a simple task. It requires fine motor control and concentration to manipulate media across the timeline.

Using a mouse is the most sensible, practical and logical approach. You simpling cannot execute many higher functions using your fingers - it is just plain ridiculous. On the flip side, the new changes to the interface will probably make it much easier for a brand new user to start using Movie Studio Platinum. Don't panic if you are an existing user of Movie Studio Platinum, you can still do all the same things you could do in the older versions.

Once you drill down underneath the surface of the desktop re-design, you will still find all the advanced controls and settings that make Movie Studio Platinum a great video editing program.

My main disappointment is with the changes that have been made to the toolbar and the fact that you can no longer customize it. If you own an older version of Movie Studio Platinum and would like to upgrade to version 13, you will be able to easily adapt to the new way of doing things, it is just a bit annoying. My belief is that Sony should have created an extra "Touch Screen Version" only in the new Movie Studio 13 range just for people who have a touch screen computer, and left the "Platinum" version feeling and looking like a real Platinum Version.

The other alternative is that maybe the new Advanced Edit Mode should return the interface to the traditional customizable toolbar with smaller icons, leaving the Simple Edit Mode just for touch screen operation. If you are a brand new person looking to buy your first "proper" video editing software, then the new changes should not affect your decision to buy.

Movie Studio Platinum is still one of the best value and most feature rich video editing programs in this price range on the market. You will not be disappointed with what this program can do. For a full list of all the technical specifications , plese refer to this page on the Sony Creative Software website. I have been using Sony's Movie Studio software for over six years now. Looking back in time, it seems like a bit of a fluke that I chose Movie Studio Platinum 8 as my first "proper" video editing sofware.

There are so many different choices you can make in the marketplace, it can be very overwhelming knowing what to get. Still to this day I am very happy with the choice I made. The reason why I still say this today, is because of the many "pro-like" features and tools that are included in Movie Studio software.

Movie Studio is not a professional application, however for the medium to advanced user, there are many tools that can help you create what you imagine in your head. If you are a new person and have not experienced Movie Studio software before and would like to really learn how to do great video editing, then below are some of my favourite tools in Movie Studio Platinum If you are an owner of a previous version of Movie Studio, then there probably isn't that many newer features to make it worth while updating to version 13 - especially if you already own version 11 or However, if you are one of the people that experiences bad video lag problems in the Preview Window, then just this one new feature of onboard Proxy Video Creation alone, is probably a good enough reason to try version 13 out.

If you are brand new to the world of video editing and are eager to really get creative and learn as much as possible, I suggest you take a serious look at Movie Studio Suite This package not only includes Movie Studio Platinum 13, it also includes a terrific group of supporting programs and plugins.

Movie Studio Suite 13 is still my number one personal recommendation, because it offers the most features for an amazing price. You can read more about the Suite version in this article here. If you only want to do some video editing, but need to make sure you have enough advanced tools to get the job done properly, then Movie Studio Platinum 13 is also a great choice.

No matter which version you are gravitated towards, please remember that you can download a free trial direct from Sony Creative Software and test it out before you buy. The IT tech said that they would have to disable my graphics card in order for Win10 to work on my 7 year old laptop.

Do you think that will affect using Movie Studio Plat 13? I have never heard of anyone say this ever! Very strange that they would say this I don't know a single person who upgraded from W7 to W10, who had to do this.

Movie Studio really needs to have a working Graphics Card to work properly. I cannot predict how it will work without a working graphics card. Thanks Derek. They're able to upgrade my sisters laptop fine but as my laptop is older they said Win10 is not compatible with that graphic card so they will have to disable it.

Maybe I'm an unusual case, maybe not. But at least you have informed me that I do need to have a working graphics card. So I'll have to buy a new laptop.

I guess I can transfer Movie Studio from one laptop to another. You can install Movie Studio on up to 2x different computers. If it will not register on a new computer, you can login to your Magix account and de-register Movie Studio from the old computer, then the license will be reset to use on a new machine. I don't want to spend money unnecessarily on cores that won't be used by MSP Which cpu would you recommend?

How many cores does MSP13 effectively use? Video Editing programs always work better with more cores, so I would strongly recommend you get Ryzen 5 If you upgrade to a newer version of Movie Studio one day, it would be much better to have a more powerful CPU. There is a lot of development going on with Vegas at the moment, which means future versions of the program will be better optimised for modern computer hardware.

Never regret spending more money on a CPU now, because in the long run it will be worth it. I'm glad I made that decision back then. I will go with your recomendation and get the Ryzen 5.

Just to be clear though, as things stand, MSP 13 cannot utilize more than 4 cores in its current form?

I did not say that. That equals 4x threads per core. My guess is that you may get all cores working, but I can't be sure. What I do know, is that in the new released of Vegas Pro 15, many more rendering threads are now available. When Movie Studio Platinum 15 gets released, the same will probably happen for that as well.

Derek, I use Sony Platinum I take a lot of video of sports, baseball, football, basketball, etc. Is there a function that allows you to highlight an individual in a video clip as it begins, but then stop it as the action takes place in the clip as it continues?

If I am understanding you correctly, I think this tutorial should be able to help you out. You can adapt the workflow I show in this video to any effect you like. Please note that "masking" is not available in Movie Studio, but you can use the Cookie Cutter tool instead. Derek, Have you done green screen with Movie Studio 12 and 13, if so is one better than the other.

I have Magix movie edit pro premium but it seems to leave a green around a person. I tried the trial of Sony Movie Studio 13 and it seem to do a better job but wanted to know if Studio 12 also was as good or if 13 added a better keying for green screen..

The bare bones version of Movie Studio 13 does not include these. As for the program, it runs well on my system which is a high-end gaming system.

Keep in mind that although there is a help feature, your best instructions for using it will be from Utube videos. There are several others, some of which concentrate on particular problems, but if you stick with the steep learning curve it will do all you want it to do. Quite frankly I'm just a beginner, but after banging my head against the wall and re-reading or re-watching the videos, you can get it to do what you want.

You are almost forced to edit in a linear fashion because there is no preview monitor. Double click on a clip and it goes straight to the timeline. It is not a fast interface to use to try simple things like adjust audio with keyframes. There is no use for this in a professionally written segment. I'm still trying to make it work for me but every little thing is a struggle even when I've looked up on YouTube what to do to make it work the way I want.

I would caution the buy of this as someone who has worked in a high market. I'm still trying to find a nice alternative to use at home for creative editing but at this point I can't recommend this. I haven't tried the FX yet though and am eager to see how good they are. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. I find this program easy to use, although the instructions with a pointer shifting backward and forward on your timeline can be annoying.

There are plenty of filmed versions of instructions showing the screen as clips are edited on youtube. I traced the problems I was having with version 10 being unable to work with HD thanks to a chap in Sydney Australia that way, then bought Version Thirteen has many new features but a novice can start straightforward editing easily and move on to more advanced techniques at their own pace.

The new thing is that it is now designed for touch screens. One thing about the Sony - I had been using another well known system for a long time, which seemed to crash if you frowned at it. I have had hardly any trouble like this with the Sony. It can hit a problem, but tells you what it is usually caused by me, if I am honest but not crashing constantly for no apparent reason, leaving you confused and frustrated.

This will be under the Programs and Features settings. In the list will be the following option:. NET Framework 3. NET 2. This will download and install the required. NET components that the Movie Studio installer - for whatever reason - has trouble downloading. Run the Movie Studio installer again and it should work fine.

I have run into this problem a few times and this solution has always worked for me, so hopefully it will help somebody else. One person found this helpful. But on my modest PC, performance on HD movies made editing a sluggish and frustrating experience. So I tried out 6 different free or demos of products that were supposed to work well on slower PCs, and tested them for an hour each trying to edit a simple video.

On 5 of them, after an hour, I was not much further into the edit than when I started, and in one, ended up with nothing at all, just curses as a baffling workflow, that involved joining and unjoining edits, defeated me. With Movie Studio, I had nearly finished the whole edit in the hour and the whole experience was a pleasure.

My main problem with Premier Pro, my pc performance, was not an issue - everything was very responsive without having to pre-render previews. The whole bundle is amazing value - including music tools, DVD authoring, plugins and effects. In addition to the ones advertised, there are cards inside at least in my copy with links to further free plugins from Hitfilm.

The two big and one small downside s for me for which I have subtracted one star are that the buttons on screen are just far too big, render times for final movie are unbelievably slow and titling workflow is a bit unusual. The buttons on the screen in this version of Movie Studio are designed for Touchscreen users, so they are big, clunky and use a lot of valuable screen space.

Why the application doesn't have a 'regular' and 'touchscreen' option I will never know it does have a simple and advanced interface. As a result, commonly used buttons don't fit along the bottom of the screen too, and appear in a 'config' pop-up, which is frustrating. Renders to final movie are tortuously slow, and I have accepted that if I am going use this application regularly, my renders will need to be left running overnight and sometimes much of the next day. Overall though I am very happy with my purchase.

You can see my first movie produced on this package here: [ Report abuse. This excellent video editing software from Sony. All these authors seem to assume that users of their software have ONE drive letter C: only available for everything. NOT SO. I prefer to organise my install locations to maximise performance and back up security. I also use the full range of alphabet drive letters, C to Z. In order to do this I create logical drives in a extended partition after the first primary active partition, C:.

Y: and Z:. That way I know my optical drives will always be in the same location and not change, no matter what. The circumstances in which I had to eventually buy Sony Vegas 13 weren't really of my own volition, I was very content with my Vegas 11 for the past five years or so but then I had to update to the Windows 10 which of course meant I had to update to Sony Vegas Honestly working with Sony Vegas 13 for the first few months was a nightmare, unlike Vegas 11 which didn't require any presetting to work I quickly found out that Sony Vegas 13 does but there's also several minor details which bother me.

For what is supposedly an upgrade it feels like a 'Sony-for-dummies' program with it's 'Simple' and 'Advanced' version - like seriously what's the point?

You will likely find that that in order for Sony not to lag, which was my biggest problem, you cannot have the preview window in it's best setting you have to maintain it at 'Preview Auto ' which means that the footage will be pixelated to an extent on the preview. There are a ton of videos and forums discussing the lagging issues online which of course you can look at to solve your own issues with lagging if you are presented with them, however be warned that a lot of these pertain to Sony Vegas 12 more so than Considering that you can drag out windows from this program, you could put the window for the Media Pool, as an example, on your second monitor, whilst enjoying a larger timeline and preview windows on the main monitor.

Movie Studio is thus something worth trying: we did not encounter any issues in our testing, and working with it was a positive experience, so we'd say you can count on it to handle your video editing tasks. Movie Studio Platinum. Review Free Download specifications changelog report malware. Edit your videos with this powerful tool that possesses an intuitive, modular interface, accommodating power users just as well as the casual ones through its scalable functionality Movie Studio Platinum.

Just add a video, then edit away Upon boot-up, the program looks much like any other video editor: there's a preview window, a media section — which you can use to add effects and the like — and the usual timeline, down at the bottom.

The modular interface allows for deep customization To suit your needs, you can customize this application however you want. In conclusion Movie Studio is thus something worth trying: we did not encounter any issues in our testing, and working with it was a positive experience, so we'd say you can count on it to handle your video editing tasks. Render options for low quality non HD project? When I say low quality, it's more like medium really except that it's from a DV video camera, copied to VHS, then to DVD, then to hard drive and then converted from avi to mp4 through Handbrake. It's been through the washer a bit, but is still surprisingly clear and the sound is incredible. The mp4 is 4 Gb. Clearly I can't push this up to HD, but I'd like to know the most appropriate codec to use for rendering if anyone could help me.

Thanks and cheers! Then bump up the Bit Rate setting so you get a nice clear image. I use 12 Mbps High and 6 Mbps Average. You could use lower or higher settings - do some experiments. I do everything like u say. In fact the options were the same like yours, before I check it! And after I click render, there is an error again! For anyone to help with this problem, you have to at the very least give the error that you're getting.
